About the Paper

Nature is becoming a strategic business issue — and the numbers make clear why. We are pleased to have contributed to a new paper launched last week at the Swiss Cleantech Dialog 2026, developed by our partners Innovate 4 Nature (I4N) and PwC Switzerland:

„Nature Positive: From Resilience to Value Creation”.

Drawing on survey insights from Swiss companies across sectors, the paper maps the journey from reactive risk management to active value creation through nature-positive strategies.

Why Nature Is Now a Core Business Question

Around 55% of global GDP depends on ecosystem services. Yet financing continues to favour nature-negative activities by a ratio of 30 to 1 — a fundamental misalignment between economic dependence on nature and where capital actually flows.

Regulators are catching up fast. Nature-related due diligence, risk management and corporate disclosure requirements — including TNFD, CSRD and Switzerland’s Federal Biodiversity Action Plan — are making nature-related performance an increasingly decisive factor for both companies and financial institutions.

The paper identifies five key findings:

1. Nature is material business infrastructure

Ecosystems are not a peripheral sustainability concern — they are foundational to economic value creation. Yet most corporate strategies still fail to account for nature-related risks in any meaningful way.

2. The financing gap cannot be closed by public spending alone

Reaching global biodiversity, climate and land restoration targets requires a dramatic increase in nature investment. Private capital — through blended finance, green bonds and emerging nature markets — must play a central role.

3. Nature-positive solutions are investment-ready

The paper presents concrete, deployable solutions across three sectors: agri-food, the built environment and energy. These include materials innovation, ecosystem regeneration and restoration, circular and water stewardship solutions, and nature finance instruments.

4. The economic case is quantifiable

The World Economic Forum estimates that a nature-positive economy could unlock USD 10.1 trillion in annual business value by 2030.

5. First movers build resilience — delay is not a neutral choice

Companies that act now can reduce operating costs, strengthen supply chains and access growing nature-positive markets. Those that wait will face mounting operational, regulatory and financial pressures as nature-related risks materialise.

engageability’s Contribution

engageability supported this project as a strategic partner of Innovate 4 Nature. Our work at the intersection of stakeholder engagement, nature strategy and sustainability communications contributed to the development and framing of the paper’s content.

The findings reflect what we see in advisory work every day: nature is no longer a topic confined to the sustainability department — it is a question of long-term competitiveness.
